BECOMING A NORTH HORSHAM PARISH COUNCILLOR – OPEN DAY

North Horsham Parish Council urges residents of North Horsham who want to know more about becoming a Parish Councillor to come along to a special Open Day on Saturday 17th March at Roffey Millennium Hall, Crawley Road, Horsham between 2.00pm and 4.00pm. This is an opportunity to drop in and view a special DVD about life as a councillor and meet informally with existing Councillors.

On display will be photos of recent projects; a graphic ‘montage’ depicting the work of the Council’s committees; copies of the Parish Plan; information on the introduction of ‘S.I.D.’ (Speed Indication Device) and how you can be involved. In addition it is anticipated this will be a further opportunity to comment on the Horsham Design Statement (exhibition in town centre on 9th & 10th March)

Encouraging residents to come along to the Open Day, John Charles, Chairman of the Council said, “The whole Council is up for election on 03 May 2007 – all 19 seats covering Holbrook and Roffey. We already know that not all existing councillors are re-standing and we need residents to take up the challenge and become parish councillors. Ideally, it would good to have fully contested elections in all four wards. That requires a minimum of 23 candidates and if achieved will enable the Council to seek Quality Status by the summer.” John adds, “The last time actual votes were cast for any vacancy on the Council was for a bye-election in about 1996. Since then due to insufficient candidates all Councillors, by way of default, have been ‘elected’ unopposed. That isn’t true democracy. Put yourself forward and let the public have a real choice in who they want to represent them!”
