North Horsham Parish forms, as its name suggests, the northern part of Horsham, which itself is a growing and thriving market town.

Population

In 1801 Horsham’s total population was 19,983. In 1901 this had grown to 40,054; by 2001 the population was recorded at 122,078 and 2003 shows 123,800.

A breakdown of the 2001 population figure by West Sussex County Council shows that around 45,000 people (37%) lived in the unparished areas of Horsham Town and within North Horsham Parish.

The other main areas of population in Horsham District are Billingshurst, Southwater and Steying; with the remaining population living in Parishes with populations ranging from 200 to 5000. The generally low population in the remaining Parishes is indicative of the character of Horsham District, which is largely rural with many small villages.

Employment

In 2001, 66% of the workforce was employed in the service industry, the largest sector of the local economy. Compare this to 1841, when 45% of the workforce worked in agriculture.

In 1931 male unemployment was 5.6% (against 12.7% nationally) and in 2001, the figure was 2.3% (against 6% nationally).

North Horsham Parish itself is divided into four Wards, two representing Holbrook (Holbrook East and Holbrook West) and two representing Roffey (Roffey North and Roffey South).

The Parish is predominantly a built up residential area, although there are some exceptional Open Space areas. A large portion of North Horsham Parish is on the northern side of the A264 and is largley rural in nature and containes a business park, brickwords and an landfill site in addition to farmland and forestry.
