The Parish Council is extremely proud of the Play Areas provided for residents of the Parish. In 2003, a major refurbishment programme of all Play Areas was begun, with the programme to be completed in the 2006/2007 financial year. This programme began with:
HOLBROOK TYTHE BARNThis is a much used Play Area in the grounds of Holbrook Tythe Barn in Pondtail Road. Play equipment for both toddlers and juniors is provided.
For toddlers there are cradle swings and a Multi Play Unit, which offers a variety of play elements, including a slide and a fireman’s pole.
For the juniors, there are swings, a large climbing frame, balance beams and an aerial runway.
The refurbishment programme began here with the replacement of all the safety surfacing tiles, with a continuous safety surface, with brightly coloured wear pads under the swings, at the foot of the slide etc. The main part of the aerial runway equipment was replaced and all of the equipment was re-painted.
The next step in the programme was BIRCHES ROAD. This Play Area previously consisted of a stand-alone slide, swings and a Multi Play Area and was unfenced.
Of the original equipment, only the swings remain. The Play Area again offers equipment for both toddlers and juniors. For the toddlers, there is a roundabout, a small Multi Play Unit and cradle swings. For the juniors there are swings, a huge Multi Play Unit featuring many different play elements and an adventure trail.
The entire Play Area is now fenced, thus keeping dogs out and children in and seats and litter bins have been provided.
2005 saw the complete refurbishment of the AMBERLEY CLOSE PLAY AREA. All of the original equipment was removed and replaced with modern steel equipment. The Area again provides areas for both toddlers and juniors and also a seated area for parents and carers. For the toddlers, there are cradle swings, a Multi Play Unit and a four seater rocker. For the juniors, there are swings, a climbing net, a large Multi Play Area and a twister.
The seating area provides seats and a picnic table, together with two large free-standing board games.
A final enhancement to the Play Area, was the provision of a tarmac path from Rowlands Road to the gate of the Play Area. The creation of a footpath link to the Play Area from Earles Meadow is a potential Capital Project for 2006/2007.
The final Play Area is the small Toddler Area at EARLES MEADOW. The equipment has been repainted and in 2006/2007, the safety tiles will be replaced by a continuous safety surface with coloured wear pads.
If you encounter a problem at any of our Play Areas, please contact the Parish Office
The Parish Council owns and maintains some 13 acres of land at EARLES MEADOW, formerly known as Greens Farm, just below the A264.
The area provides for quiet and peaceful walks away from the bustle of the traffic. In the lower area, boardwalks are provided to help the walker across the wooded, boggy habitat area.
The Parish Council are considering as a Capital Project in 2006/2007 the enhancement of this area as a Nature Area. If this is something that you would be interested in and would like to be involved with, please contact the Parish Office.
